NAMI Workshop

RC Hospital and Clinics, The Cultural Centre and The National Alliance for Mental Illness will be partnering to offer four classes through this three day workshop.
Mental Health First Aid | August 7th | 8am-5pm
Course Description:
Learn basic first aid skills needed to help a person who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Learn about common mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders.
Understanding and recognizing the signs that someone needs help is the first step in getting that person appropriate care and treatment. Participants will receive a course manual and certificate.
This workshop is for individuals seeking basic information on mental illnesses and how to help someone in crisis. It is not intended for professionals who have a background in mental health.
Participants must be present for entire curricula to receive certificate.

QPR | Question, Persuade, Refer | August 8th | 8:30am-9:30am
Description:
Learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States, and more than one million adults have been trained in classroom settings in more than 48 states.
This one hour class is for members of the community over the age of 16 who want to learn best practices in suicide prevention.
Means Restriction Education | August 8th | 9:45am-11:45am
Description:
Learn how to educate families on the importance of restricting access to lethal means when a family member is at risk of suicide. The class discusses developing safe options for gun removal and storage, and securing medications.
This class is an evidence based practice designed for crisis responders, medical, and mental health professionals.
