January 12, 2024 – Week two of Art Experience introduced sculpting to our young students. To start the class Rosemary provided a snack and the students helped prepared the fruit and vegetables. If you could only see how excited they were to help prepare and serve the snacks! They worked together to set up the snacks and enjoy a short conversation with Rosemary. It began with questions about how their school day went, which we learned that everyone’s favorite school subjects are recess, lunch and gym.

Once snack time is over, the fun begins. Now it is time to get down to business. Rosemary guides the students step by step to create their own…can you guess what they created? First, they started creating an oval body, second, a round head, then four small oval legs. Have you guessed it yet? They continued with a small round tail followed by a small triangle nose and finally a pair of bunny ears.

It’s a Bunny!

But wait, you didn’t think they were done, right? This group would not settle for the minimum, they go for the max. After finishing their bunnies, they continued on to create a rose. I can tell you making that rose was not an easy feat, but they did not give in. They continued working on and helping each other until everyone had a rose of their own.

Rosemary has a wonderful group of students. They enjoyed showing their finished work to the Bridge Club members present on Wednesday. After all the fun was over, this group did not miss a beat. They were not satisfied until all the tools and work areas were all clean. It is a wonderful experience being present and witnessing how hardworking and focused these art students are. To continue to encourage their creativity and practice drawing Rosemary provided them with a take home sketch book. I am anxiously waiting to see what they draw in those books.
