Youthful Art Summer Day Camp

As I write this narration, the North Wind is howling as the treetops sway to its commands. I am looking forward to the next reprieve from Mother Nature, as well as the Valentine’s Day Tea on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 11am to 2pm, an event filled with friendship, laughter, good food, and a few surprises. So, invite your friends, co-workers and come to Grama’s House (next to the Cultural Centre) in Bird Island, Minnesota. In addition to the fun, your $20 ticket purchase is part of an important fundraiser.

This fundraiser is for the Tinnes-Baker House Restoration Project. As many of you know, Mark and Rosemary Glesener purchased this home and donated it to the Cultural Centre, a 501 C-3 non-profit corporation.

Recently, the Cultural Centre in Bird Island was notified of its listing in the National Registry of Historic Places for its craftsman style architecture. While we may qualify for some grants, other grants require matching funds to restore, as close to possible, its original state. Fundraisers such as the Valentine’s Day Tea will play a key role in this process.

This house is loved! It was loved by Matilda Baker, Pat Saunders, and others – it is part of our communal history! Pat Saunders, in particular, appreciated the value of preserving this home’s unique features: a built-in ice box, beautiful woodwork and flooring, and a gas lighting fixture.

Join the Cultural Centre in Bird Island in preserving the Tinnes-Baker House. This Valentine’s Day community celebration will help insure its history for future generations.
