Once gain, this year we are sponsoring a new opportunity for the town and surrounding areas to get involved in. We are excited to host our second annual Prairie Poetry Slam!
This event takes place online via the Submittable platform, lasting through April 6, 2018. We are having a Writers’ workshop on April 6-7, 2018. There will be a poetry reading on April 6 at 7:00 pm by Athena Kildergaard and Jim Togeas -the winner of 2017 Poetry Pound Down. On April 7, Athena will hold a workshop at $10 per person from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. We will have a leisurely lunch and return to the program at 1:30 – 5:00 pm to listen to the poetry reading and contest. Athen Kildergaard will be the judge. You can enter your poems either on the online submittal or at the live event. Please make sure you let us know on your submission form which event(s) you are entering for. You will also be able to purchase a spot in the poetry workshop taking place April 7 under instruction from our judge and spectacular poet, Athena Kildegaard. This will be a Two-day workshop with Athena Kildegaard. The total cost of workshop per person will include: Workshop fee and food. Room and board will cost and additional fee. Rooms are available at $70 (plus tax) at Grama’s house.
The workshop will consist of practicing “a variety of ways to think about what’s working in your poem and how to revise toward a finished poem. Bring 1-3 drafts of poems you want to work on, paper, and pen or pencil. If you don’t have a poem to revise, come anyway! We’ll start with an activity that you can use to create a first draft.”
